I run because… I love improving my times and the sense of accomplishment I get after each run, workout or race
The best thing about running is… definitely the adventures you go on during your runs and exploring new, fun places to run
My favorite place to run: the Snoqualmie Valley Trail
Favorite running movie: The Jericho Mile or McFarland USA
Favorite running quote: “The best pace is suicide pace, and today looks like a good day to die.” -Prefontaine
Jody

Favorite place to run: Cougar Mountain has fun, beautiful single-track trails making it my favorite place to run. Every trail is named and well-marked so it’s easy to navigate. A bunch of great running routes are available online too; search for Cougar Mountain Trail Race Series and go to course maps where you’ll find routes anywhere from 3 to 30 miles.
Favorite post-run snack: Because I usually run early in the morning breakfast is usually the first meal. One of my favorite post-run breakfasts is a fried egg on a toasted spelt English muffin topped with white cheddar, smoked bacon, heirloom tomato and arugula.
Current favorite shoe: If I’m out pounding the pavement, I choose my Asics Kayano. They have great support for my pronating feet and nice cushioning for my joints.
I run because… it’s how I honor my body and mind. I always feel so much better when I do. I have never regretted going for a run.
Best thing about running… is you can do it anywhere. All you need is good shoes and a bit of gear. And you get such a great workout in a relatively short amount of time.

Favorite place to run: Cedar River Trail, Maple Valley
Favorite snack post-run snack: Peanut butter pancakes
I run because … who doesn’t love an extra slice of pie
If I wasn’t a runner I would… probably be playing offensive line for the Huskies right now
Favorite running movie: Forrest Gump
Elizabeth

Favorite place to run: Soaring Eagle Park…beautiful, lots of trails and you can’t get lost.
Favorite snack post-run snack: I wish it could be a donut but avocado toast is my go-to.
Current favorite shoe: Hoka Arahi. It’s the perfect combo of cushion and lightweight support that makes my knees happy.
I run because… well, actually, I’m more of a walker these days (see knee comment above). But no matter if I’m walking or hiking, I love doing it with a friend and a dog.
Favorite running quote: “I’ll sleep when I die.” – Mark Steen

I run because…I began running cross country and track because I wasn’t tall enough for basketball, quick enough for soccer, big enough for football, couldn’t hit a curveball, but I discovered that I could outlast most kids when teacher made us run around the ball fields for recess. Finally, there was a place in the sporting world for slowtwitch! The thing that kept me running was the great comradery and friendships developed; first with my high school then college teammates and more recently with the local runners I’ve met and regularly run with.
Favorite Running Movie…One of the Prefontaine movies. I was a teenager when he died, just getting into running and his bigger than life persona and stories about him made a huge impression on me. I especially liked hearing that runners could drink beer as a regular part of their training!
If I wasn’t a runner…I’d be more grumpy. My wife, Elizabeth can always tell when I haven’t been exercising. She kindly suggests I go for a run when I get cranky or stressed. It definitely plays a big role in my mental well-being and keeps harmony in the household.
Favorite running quote…There are so many Steve Prefontaine quotes that I latched onto in my younger more competitive days, like…
“A lot of people run a race to see who’s the fastest. I run to see who has the most guts.” Or “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift”
As a less competitive runner I relate more to this one now:
“Winning has nothing to do with racing. Most days don’t have races anyway. Winning is about struggle and effort and optimism, and never, ever, ever giving up.” Amby Burfoot
Jasper

Favorite place to run…Tradition Plateau
I run because…it keeps me fit and gives me something to focus on
If I didn’t run I would…Bike probably. Anything distance oriented that’s not swimming doesn’t leave too many possibilities
Most looking forward to…racing face to face again and tearing up a track
Best thing about running…being 60% done with a hard run or race, completely out of gas and summoning some unknown strength within you to finish is a feeling you will find very few other places
Paul
